Beagle Feeding Needs
An essential step in having a healthy pet is ensuring that your dog receives a well balanced diet
that matches their activity level and age.
A Beagle's Stomach Follows its Nose
And usually it's in the direction of food.  While
a Beagle loves to curl up in the den or
bedroom, his favorite room is the kitchen
When Beagles aren't actually in the act of eating,
they're probably either asleep and dreaming of food
or awake and searching for food.  This popular
breed is known for being active, but if a Beagle is
not provided the proper amount of exercise and diet,
they can resemble a Butterball turkey in quick
fashion.  Not only is this unsightly, but it increases
the possibility that your dog will have weight-related
health issues and a shortened life span.  In the peak
of our beloved Ramos' near 17-years with our
family, we had to place a baby lock on the fridge to
keep her out of it.

Once a Beagle hits 6 years old,
it's time to adjust your dog's
menu to help your loved one
through its golden years.
Puppy Love
From the day it emerges into the world, Beagles
have an insatiable appetite which results in a
constant quest for food

Foods you should never give your Beagle: According to Animal Planet,
you should avoid giving your dog these specific foods:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Avocado
  • Chocolate (all forms)
  • Coffee
  • Excessively fatty foods
  • Macadamia Nuts
  • Moldy or spoiled foods
  • Onions and onion powder
  • Raisins and grapes
  • Yeast dough
  • Products sweetened with xylitol
Even more foods not to give your dog

  • Chicken bones: Not only do they pose a potential choking problem, but chicken bones splinter
easily and can inflict damage on your dog's stomach and intestines.
  • Raw or undercooked meat: Just like humans, dogs can suffer the ill-effects from bacteria found on
    uncooked meat.
  • Dairy products:  Dogs apparently can't digest lactose.  Therefore the end result is often runny stool.
  • Mushrooms: These food products have toxins in them that reportedly can cause a dog to slip into a
    coma and even die.
